Chris Polis is a full stack software and data engineer with a passion for using data, statistics, and visualization to solve complex problems. With 8.95 years of relevant experience, he has a strong background in software engineering, data engineering, SQL, UI, Java, research science, search, and backend development. Currently, Chris works as a software engineer at Google, where he develops clinician-facing tools for Google Health, including "Care Studio," which provides better search and insights for clinicians. He also leads data visualization feature development and contributes to Google-wide charting libraries. Additionally, he built out medical record backend services using C++, Java, and FHIR standards. Prior to his current role, Chris worked as a software engineer at Google Ads, where he built features for campaign management and reporting for advertiser-facing Google Ads UI. He also helped launch high-value ad serving changes that required coordination between internal teams and external stakeholders. He managed dashboards, SQL scripts, and workflows for monitoring feature adoption and problem detection. Chris also held pager-carrier duty and push master roles and contributed to Dart language code reviews and common UI component libraries within Google. Before joining Google, Chris worked as a senior software engineer at Instacart, where he developed and maintained Instacart's customer-facing web and mobile applications. He also led the development of Instacart's search and discovery platform, which helped customers find products more efficiently. Chris holds a BS in computer engineering from California State Polytechnic University and completed the HMX Fundamentals online certificate program in pharmacology and physiology from Harvard Medical School. He is also a Vim enthusiast and maintains a personal website and GitHub profile where he shares his work and projects.
