Chris Williams is a highly experienced software generalist with over 2 decades of industry experience. He has coded professionally in 9 out of the 10 most used languages, at every level in the stack. Chris was the first engineer at two successful startups, Hotel Tonight (acquired by AirBnB) and Helix ($200M series B). He has experience in both technical and product leadership, but his primary passion is hands-on hacking on hard problems. Currently, Chris works as a Staff ML Engineer at Remedy Robotics, where he is building semiautonomous telesurgical robots to increase access to time-critical specialist procedures, initially for stroke patients. He is also actively involved in hiring for the company. Previously, Chris worked at Lyft as a Staff ML Software Engineer, Advanced Development (Level 5), where he was the technical lead and interim EM for a team of 8 SW and ML engineers. He guided various projects, including researching the application of unsupervised and semi-supervised ML to gain insights into driving scenario datasets, consolidation of definitions and implementation for programmatically labeled driving scenarios, and improving the yield of the driving scenario data pipeline. Prior to Lyft, he was a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Cruise Automation, where he helped define best practices for the use of Terraform Enterprise, pioneered the use of continuous delivery, and improved tooling for Spark-based machine learning data pipelines. Chris has expertise in ML, Terraform, SRE, Senior Software Engineer, CNN, RNN, Software Engineer, and Spark. He has 17.45 years of relevant experience in the industry.
