Curtis Layne is an accomplished Engineering Leader at Uber with over 11 years of relevant experience. As the Engineering Manager of the Consumer Messaging team, he leads the development of end-to-end messaging systems that deliver the right message to riders at the right time, helping them discover new Uber products. Curtis's team builds creative authoring tools on the web, high-scale distributed systems, server-driven UI frameworks, and ML ranking algorithms to determine the best message for each rider. In addition, Curtis is responsible for engineering excellence and reliability for all of the Rider org, comprising over 200 engineers across 5 sites. He has raised the bar on quality and reliability for the profit engine of the entire company. Curtis has also led engineering for the Micromobility Experience team, where he was responsible for the rider experience of bikes and scooters in the Uber rider app. He launched and ran the Uber Micromobility platform in 100+ markets globally. Curtis's impressive career at Uber also includes leading engineering for the Jump Fleet team. He built the tech that enabled nearly 1 million electric bikes and scooters to be available at the right time, right place, and at affordable prices. This included real-time IoT tracking and management systems, dynamic routing algorithms, asset tracking and supply chain management, and industrialized repair operations tools. Curtis holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from Queen's University. He is a senior software engineer with expertise in Android, iOS, web, ML, UI, mobile, and backend technologies.
