Daniel Grossmann-Kavanagh is a seasoned software engineer with almost a decade of experience in the field. Currently, he is the Engineering Lead on the Developer Platform at benchling.com, where he is responsible for leading the software development team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software products. He is also a senior software engineer at the company. Prior to joining benchling.com, Daniel worked at Planet Labs, Inc., where he held several roles, including Spaceship Captain / Software Engineer (Operations Automation), Software Engineer (Missions Software), and Software Engineering Manager (Missions Software). During his time at Planet Labs, Daniel was part of the Missions Software team that designed, built, and operated the ground software for the world's largest constellation of satellites. He was involved in several projects, including Mission Control API, Constellation Autopilot, Power/Data/RF Models, Automated Model Fitting Using Spacecraft Telemetry, Spacecraft Configuration Store, Command Sequence Generation for On-Orbit Activities, and Value Forecasting for Imaging Areas of Interest (Forecaster + Visualization). Daniel has also worked as an Open Source Software Consultant for Australian Space Startups, where he helped them with their most pressing technical problems. He holds a BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, which he completed in 2012. Daniel's technical skills include AWS, Python, Docker, Pandas, Flask, Postgres, Django, Javascript, Jenkins, and infra. He is passionate about developing open source software and enjoys reading, traveling, and hiking. Daniel is particularly interested in Linux in space and is always happy to share his knowledge on the subject.
