From tightening actions on Paytm and Kotak Mahindra Bank to introducing the SRO framework in May, announcing Unified Lending Interface (ULI) in August, and enhancing P2P lending, RBI continues to drive trust, growth and scale for the ecosystem. 1. Crackdown on Paytm - Key issues included persistent non-compliance with regulatory standards and supervisory concerns 2. The future of fraud detection: Generative AI and Quantum computing for mule accounts #Mule accounts have become a significant threat in India’s financial ecosystem resulting in losses of over Rs 17,000 crore in 2023 Over 29,000 #cyber #fraud cases involving mule accounts were reported in FY24, tenfold rise since FY20. Cyber criminals have used sophisticated fraud schemes like Authorized Push Payments, Business Email Compromise, Account Takeover etc. to access bank accounts and manipulate transactions.
