Devinder Kumar is a highly accomplished Head of MLOps with a strong background in AI, ML, research, and engineering. He is currently leading the MLOps team at Layer 6/TD Bank, where he is responsible for ML product and data engineering as well as DevOps. Devinder has a PhD in Explainable AI (X-AI) from the University of Waterloo and Vector Institute of AI, Toronto, where he conducted research on Deep Learning, Explainable AI, and its application in Computer Vision. During his PhD, he worked on several industrial POC projects for different companies, most of which were firms with $B+ revenue. Devinder has also worked as a Lead AI Scientist at NextAI program (NEXT Canada), where he led a team of AI Scientists that provided advice to multiple startups selected from across the world working in different sectors such as Oil, finance, manufacturing, mining, healthcare, etc. He has experience leading teams of MLEs and has been responsible for end-to-end ML pipeline and use case delivery in the cloud. In his current role, Devinder is responsible for leading the ML Product, Data Engineering, and ML infrastructure teams at Layer 6/TD Bank, where he co-develops ML models with ML Scientists and maintains them in the cloud. He is also responsible for maintaining the cloud infrastructure and DevOps work. Devinder has a strong educational background, with a postdoctoral fellowship from Stanford University, a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Waterloo, and a Master's degree in Systems Design Engineering from the same university. He has experience in AI, ML, research scientist, infra, DevOps, data engineering, computer vision, deep learning, and senior software engineering.
