Di Qi is a highly skilled and experienced Founder and Co-Founder with a strong background in computer science and a focus on research, quantitative trading algorithms, and machine learning. As the Co-Founder of Origami, a startup that recently participated in Y Combinator's W21 batch, Di is responsible for driving the company's growth and innovation. With over 5 years of relevant experience, Di has a proven track record of success in the tech industry. Prior to founding Origami, Di was the Co-Founder and CTO of Cartel Research, where he designed and built a research environment to generate and evaluate strategies that trade U.S. equities and options. He also developed quantitative trading algorithms using feature engineering and pushed models into production. During his time at Cartel Research, Di contributed over 7000 lines of code in SQL and Python and recruited and closely collaborated with three other engineers. Before Cartel Research, Di worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at Facebook, where he improved the massive-scale recommendation system which covers 10% of Facebook ads traffic. He implemented a search-style retrieval pipeline using SQL, Python, and C++, conducted offline analysis and online experiments, and improved offline metrics relative to existing retrieval systems. Di also identified and implemented improvements to the existing method for offline retrieval evaluation and developed features to capture user intent for ranking models. Di holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Princeton University and completed the Y Combinator program in 2020. His technical skills include SQL, Python, ML, senior software engineering, research science, recommendation systems, and search.
