Diptesh Kanojia is a Research Fellow with expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML). He is currently working as a Lecturer at the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Surrey. His research interests lie in the sub-areas of Machine Translation, Translation Technologies and Research, Cognitive Psycholinguistics, Lexical Semantics, Multilingualism, Low-resource Languages, Sentiment/Emotion Analysis, and Teaching. Diptesh completed his joint PhD with IIT Bombay, India and Monash University, Australia, in 2021, where his thesis focused on the detection of shared vocabulary among more than 10 language pairs among Indian languages. He also investigated the pivotal role and application of word embeddings in Computational Phylogenetics, making Lexical Semantics his primary area of expertise. Before starting his PhD, he worked as a Research Engineer at the CFILT Lab, IIT Bombay, India, where his research collaborations/publications in diverse sub-areas of NLP led him to pursue a PhD. Diptesh has acquired a significant amount of experience as a Teaching Assistant while pursuing his PhD and is interested in teaching. He is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Surrey, where he joined the Centre for Translation Studies, School of Literature and Languages as a Research Fellow to work on problems at the intersection of linguistics and computation. Diptesh's education background includes a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Computer Science and Engineering from Uttar Pradesh Technical University, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computational Phylogenetics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and Monash University.
