Eric Huneke is a seasoned IT software professional with over six years of experience in developing and supporting business and consumer-facing applications. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at The Home Depot, he practices Site Reliability Engineering in a large microservices environment running on Google Cloud Platform. Eric has experience in many of the best practices common to DevOps and SRE roles, including continuous integration, test automation, release automation, and ChatOps. He has a strong passion for ensuring applications meet production standards through reliability reviews and destructive testing, and his focus shifts towards monitoring and alerting on well-defined metrics once in production. Eric's interest in computers goes way back, and combined with a desire to become an engineer, he had an easy decision when choosing a career path. Eric's strongest language was Java, but currently, he has shifted towards Go development for applications. For scripting and tooling, he is also proficient in Python. For configuration management, Ansible is his go-to, although Docker is replacing much of what he used to use it for. To code, he uses IntelliJ IDEA and Vim. As a Senior SRE at The Home Depot, his primary responsibility is to support homedepot.com and its large microservice ecosystem running on Google Cloud Platform. He has the strongest focus on search and recommendation-related services. In his previous role as a DevOps Engineer at DXC Technology, Eric led DevOps and infrastructure for a Java/Angular-based quoting tool. He also helped to spread knowledge and implement DevOps best practices to other development teams. In his role at Hewlett Packard, his primary role was as a developer for a Liferay DXP-based customer portal POC. He helped design and set up the infrastructure, DevOps pipeline, repository structure, and build scripts. Eric has a Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. Eric has relevant experience in SRE, test, DevOps, microservices, CI/CD, Ansible, New Relic, Java, search, SDET, Docker, GCP, integration, infra, and Python.
