Software Engineer 2 - Microsoft 365 Platform
About
Evan Simkowitz is a passionate and self-motivated Software Engineer 2 currently working for Microsoft in the 365 Platform team. He is an enthusiastic engineer with experience in starting and leading initiatives, cutting through ambiguity, and building lasting and sustainable engineering cultures. Evan's primary areas of focus are in distributed systems development, automation, quality engineering, and developer productivity. However, he is always eager to learn new skills and tackle new challenges. Evan is currently working on a distributed systems architecture to power a new applications platform that will define the next generation of Microsoft productivity solutions. He works with a growing team of engineers and PMs to ensure they have the capacity and resources to build dozens of microservices that meet the needs of many discrete product teams across the Microsoft 365 suite. With 3.35 years of relevant experience, Evan has worked on various projects, including kickstarting a hungry, agile prototyping culture for a new services team, cutting through ambiguity to design a flexible, modern service architecture capable of scaling to dozens of microservices at a global scale, and leading infrastructure workstream through a critical service integration stage. He has also defined on-call procedures and identified tooling gaps, managed buildout of new service rings, and communicated requirements to upstream stakeholders. Before joining Microsoft, Evan worked as a Software Engineering Intern in the Corporate Functions Engineering group on the Legal Management Services team, which supports Microsoft's Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) department. He also served as a Microsoft Student Partner, leading workshops to increase awareness, engagement, and interest in Microsoft products and the field of computer science. Evan holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and completed his high school education at Lexington High School. His technical skills include Microservices, CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker, Azure, Integration, Infra, and NLP. Evan is passionate about nurturing and growing the next generation of talent through mentorship and recruiting efforts.
