Fang Chen is a highly skilled Scientist and Engineer with a passion for the intersection of machine learning, optimization, and statistics. With over 7 years of relevant experience, Fang has developed expertise in a wide range of application areas, including autonomous driving, gesture recognition, energy systems, time series forecasting, supply chain management, logistics, transportation, and finance. Currently, Fang is an Applied Research Scientist at Meta, where he leads the development and deployment of large-scale network anomaly detection solutions using AI and ML. He has also developed end-to-end machine learning solutions for device anomaly detection, including robust baseline approaches for time series anomaly detection and deep learning-based multivariate time series anomaly detection using LSTM/GRU-VAE. Fang has also published an invention disclosure on "Method and system for anomaly detection in customer network-overcome the curse of dimensionality." Prior to joining Meta, Fang worked as a Tech Lead and Machine Learning Scientist at Cisco, where he designed, prototyped, and deployed AI/ML product architectures for network anomaly detection. He also worked as a Senior AI Scientist at NIO, where he focused on ML/optimization problems to enhance car owner experience. Fang also designed and deployed a service operations simulation platform for resource planning and dispatching, conducted traffic behavior simulation in autonomous driving environments, and developed a gesture recognition system using accelerometer and gyroscope data. Fang holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Lehigh University, a Master's degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Minnesota, and a Bachelor's degree in Transportation and Highway Engineering from the Beijing Institute of Technology. He is skilled in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Mining, Probability Theory, Linear/Nonlinear/Mixed Integer Programming, Combinatorial Optimization, Robust Optimization, Dynamic Programming, Approximate Dynamic Programming, and Model Predictive Control.
