Frank San Miguel is a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer with over 36 years of relevant experience. He is currently working at Netflix as a Senior Software Engineer in the Media Cloud Engineering team, where he is responsible for building the next generation platform for Netflix's Media Content Engineering group. His focus includes high-scale applications that scale to hundreds of thousands of CPUs in AWS regions throughout the world, Archer, a map-reduce style media processing platform, and Cosmos, a software platform for media processing. Frank has a diverse background in building real-time big data stream processing systems, clinical information systems, letter sorters, robotic work cells, recipe databases, large scale insurance sites, and remote equipment monitoring systems. He has also been an entrepreneur and a veteran of a number of internet startups. During the time of the first web browsers, he was one of the original creators of mapquest.com. Frank's past experience includes working as a Software Architect at Cerner and being a Mentor for the FIRST Robotics Team 1640 at FIRST. He continued his role as Lead Program Architect for the Soarian Clinicals product line after Siemens Healthcare was acquired by Cerner. He led new releases, development process improvement programs, web technology modernization, architecture evolution, re-engineering, public API development and testability/test coverage improvement. His high level of customer engagement and expertise in technologies such as Java, C++, Javascript frameworks, responsive web design, semantic/graph algorithms, ontologies, knowledge management, databases, and reporting have made him a valuable asset to any team. Frank holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tulane University.
