Frank Siegemund is an accomplished engineering manager with extensive experience building core platform services for major cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. He is currently working as an Engineering Manager in Cloud GPU and Accelerator Virtualization at Google. In this role, he is responsible for leading a team that provides GPU support to Google Cloud's customers, including the A2 VM family. Prior to his current role, Frank worked as an Engineering Manager in GCE's virtualization organization at Google, where he was responsible for GCE's internal telemetry and customer-visible metrics. He led a team that owned an ecosystem of tracing and performance analysis services, some of which were open-sourced, and applied advanced data analysis techniques to improve GCE's reliability and efficiency. He was also involved in the release of many customer-visible features. Before joining Google, Frank worked as a Principal Software Engineering Manager at Microsoft, where he was responsible for end-to-end ownership of Microsoft Azure's Network API service. He built a new team, released v1 of the service, and grew it to many hundreds of millions of customer requests per day. He was also responsible for the SDK, PowerShell, and cross-platform tooling experience for network APIs and all networking aspects of Cloud Services, IaaS VMs, VMSS. Frank holds a PhD in Computer Science from ETH Zurich and an MS in Computer Science (Diplom-Informatiker) from the University of Rostock/University of London/Technical University Darmstadt. He has expertise in cloud computing, networking, GPUs, APIs, Linux virtualization, Linux and data center performance, distributed systems, control-plane services, scalability, DNS, traffic management, mobile computing, embedded systems, and IoT. Frank is a believer in the perpetual improvement of the services we build as well as of the way we work. He has a passion for technology and is always looking for ways to improve and innovate. He is a Senior Software Engineer with 18.54 years of relevant experience and has a strong tech stack that includes Azure, infra, mobile, Javascript, NodeJS, and Java.
