George Drummond is a seasoned Ruby on Rails Engineer with over 15 years of relevant experience in software engineering, mobile, frontend, and web development. He has a strong product and business focus, and he enjoys learning new technologies, picking up languages and concepts quickly. George is currently working as a Ruby on Rails Engineer at Betterment, where he plans and leads project milestones, communicates with internal and external stakeholders to determine project scope and timeline, and performs card breakdown and t-shirt sizing of engineering tasks. He regularly interviews engineering applicants and screens candidates for technical and soft skills, and he collaborates with his team on in-depth peer review and collaboration on team pull requests. George also writes internal technical specs and solicits peer feedback on design proposals. Prior to his current role, George worked as a Lead Software Engineer at buildingblok®, where he was the principal software engineer for their construction management suite. He managed a small team of engineers, performed code reviews, and took a lead role in the development of their new timesheet app. The mobile client was written in Ionic/Angular, and the web front end/REST API was implemented in Ruby on Rails. George also worked as a Senior Software Engineer at promptworks, where he developed a system for transitioning critical government defense infrastructure to the cloud. The system was written in Flask and designed to be Cloud Service Provider agnostic using Docker and Kubernetes for deployment. George holds a degree in Chemistry from Loughborough University, where he completed his education in 2007. He also attended Beal High School from 2000 to 2005.
