At Mapbox, Greg has implemented the entire Valhalla infrastructure within the Mapbox environment. He has also migrated the Valhalla cloud infrastructure from Chef to AWS EC2 Container Service utilizing cloud formation templates. Greg has added time-dependent routing to Valhalla for predicted traffic and refactored the logic for parsing conditional and access restrictions that are used for time-dependent routing within Valhalla. He has also processed compressed profiles from the traffic team to add predicted speeds to the Valhalla tiles. Greg has updated the directions compare and timeline to chart Valhalla ETAs over the course of a day, relative to other routing engines. He has designed and implemented the directions refresh endpoint that returns updated ETAs for routes created by the Mapbox directions endpoint. Greg has also configured and tested the Redis infrastructure for the directions refresh endpoint. In addition, Greg has updated the route annotator service to ingest US Speed Limit data and refactored the Express.js, Directions APIs so that customers could access the US Speed Limit data through annotations and on tracepoints. He has improved Valhalla data processing pipeline to be more flexible and error-proof by splitting the processing into stages and utilized Airflow to manage the processing. Prior to Mapbox, Greg worked at Mapzen as a Senior Software Engineer. He was part of a small, core team that developed open source routing and navigation software using OpenStreetMap (OSM) data. He researched, parsed, and converted open source data into usable graph tiles, which are used by routing algorithms. Greg has also contributed to the World Bank’s open traffic initiative by enhancing OpenStreetMap Linear Referencing program with the ability to update traffic segments stored in the protocol buffer and GeoJson files. Greg has worked at Mapquest as a Senior Software Engineer. He continuously enhanced MapQuest’s backend solutions to enable the company to reach the yearly financial goals. He utilized Inrix XD data to improve the Java-based traffic solution to decrease latency, extend coverage, and improve ETA/route time estimates. Greg has also supported and expanded the feature set of routing, traffic, guidance, exit service, find link ID,
