Gursharan Ahir is a highly skilled Software Engineer currently working at Microsoft Devices team as a SW/FW Engineer. With a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Gursharan has gained 3.27 years of relevant experience in the field of Software Engineering, Deep Learning, Research Scientist, ResNet, Adversarial Networks, GAN, and Mobile. At Microsoft, Gursharan is responsible for building firmware images for various MCU's integrated in Microsoft Surface products. He has also developed and submitted an application called "Green Cart" in Microsoft Hackathon, which recommends the quantity of food item to be bought by a user with the aim of reducing food wastage. In his previous role as a Research Intern at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Gursharan worked on modified U-Net architecture for generating semantically segmented images of few shot data using Meta-Transfer Learning. He also pre-trained the model on 5-label segmentation COCO dataset and achieved a mean IoU of 0.68 in the Meta-Training Phase and 0.62 in the Meta-Validation Phase through 3-shot learning. Currently, he is working on implementing a Differentiable Meta Learning model for few-shot semantic segmentation. During his tenure as a Software Development Engineer Intern at Samsung, Gursharan worked on text to image synthesis using stacked Generative Adversarial Networks (StackGAN) and incorporated improvements in the existing architecture. He also integrated a pre-trained encoder (ResNet-152 trained on ImageNet) with StackGAN stage-I to reduce perceptual features' loss. He improved the inception score (GAN performance metric) of the generated images by 4% on the MS COCO dataset. Additionally, he created a utility to generate automated possible solutions of certain daily issues for the storage platform team for easier debugging.
