Harsh Varshney is a highly skilled software engineer with almost five years of relevant experience in designing and building complex distributed systems. He is currently working as a Software Engineer at Splunk, where he is responsible for building a distributed in-memory database to handle billions of metric time series data points each day, serving over 4000 organizations. Harsh has also played a key role in launching infrastructure monitoring services globally, handling traffic of 50 million MTSes per day. In addition to this, Harsh has architected the caching layer for storing metrics from customer requests, improving MTS creation/min by 10x for small organizations and 3x for big organizations. He has also built a multi-region recovery mechanism for Kafka queues to handle overloads, bringing failures to almost zero. Furthermore, Harsh has created a correction pipeline to handle invalid MTSes, fixing around one million data points each day. Harsh has previously worked as a Software Engineer at Qarar, where he led a team of five to design the v1 backend architecture ground-up for comparison of business cases. He has also built the microservice backend framework for onboarding, scenarios creation, and calculating financial metrics. Before that, he worked as a Software Engineer Intern at Amazon, where he redesigned the Workflow Framework to build a microservice facilitating migrations for the entire Redshift Control Plane WFs. Harsh also designed a scalable serverless architecture and integrated it with AWS, improving the system's scalability and performance aspects up to 80% and providing error handling mechanisms. Harsh holds a Master's degree in Computer Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master's degree in Physics from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. He also has a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the same institute. Harsh has a strong technical background and is proficient in technologies such as Kafka, AWS, Java, and microservices.
