Howie Katz is a highly experienced Software Engineer with over 32 years of relevant experience in various levels of management. He is currently working as a Software Architect at Penumbra, Inc., where he is using cool tech to improve people's lives. Howie is passionate about mentoring young engineers and getting the most out of a team and its individuals. He is one of the few who enjoys writing specs and has a proven track record of delivering high-quality software products. Prior to his current role, Howie founded Flashing Machine LLC, where he developed a cross-platform solution to flash IoT devices and mobile phones directly from a web browser. The technology can also be used to flash thousands of devices in bulk and perform post-flashing initialization. The microservice backend is serverless and hosted on AWS, with Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, Cloud Formation, Cognito, S3, and CloudFront. Howie also worked as a New Media Exhibit Developer (part-time) at the Exploratorium, where he participated in the design and development of exhibits. Howie holds a BSE in Computer Science from Princeton University, where he studied from 1985-1989. He has a diverse tech stack, including AWS, Javascript, Web, Software Engineer, Microservices, Mobile, Frontend, Backend, Computer Vision, test, product designer, Docker, NodeJS, Python, Golang, and VueJS.
