Ivan Spalla is a highly skilled Gameplay Engineer and Technical Artist with a passion for creating engaging user experiences and improving efficiency in game and application development pipelines. Currently working as a Tools Programmer at Cold Iron Studios in the SF Bay, Ivan has gained extensive experience in Mobile Development, Unity3D, AR/VR, Programming (Python, LUA, C#, C++), and 3D applications such as Maya. Before joining Cold Iron Studios, Ivan worked at Playstudios as a Front End Engineer and Technical Artist. As a Games FE Engineer, he wrote Lua code to drive choreography and logic for individual slot games and worked with the engineering team to create re-usable common classes for features. As a member of the Features team, Ivan collaborated with a product manager and small team to create engaging new features to encourage players to monetize and explore the application fully. Additionally, he reduced technical debt by modifying the library of games to comply with Unity version upgrades and new mobile device releases. Ivan also worked with the Live Operations team at Playstudios to create a new lua-based quest system, which allows FX artists and TAs to quickly create quests using predetermined choreography options. As a member of the games team, he created 5+ slot games with interactive mini-games and developed dynamic data-driven game choreography in JSON configs. He also localized stylized TextMeshPro texts in 6+ languages across all games in the application and worked with the Quality Assurance Department to ensure engaging, bug-free games on all Android and iOS mobile devices. Ivan holds a Master's degree in Computer Graphics Technology from Purdue University, where he also earned his Bachelor of Science in the same field.
