James Athey is a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer with over 20 years of experience in the field. He is currently working at Sphinx Defense, Inc. where he specializes in Cloud Computing, Go, REST, OpenGL, C, C++, C#, Python, Android, Linux, Terraform, Ansible, Visual Studio, Augmented Reality, Real-time Video Streaming, SELinux, User Interface design, and Human/Computer Interaction. Prior to joining Sphinx Defense, James worked at the Defense Digital Service as a Digital Services Expert and at Apx Labs as a Senior Software Engineer. At Apx Labs, he was responsible for architecting and leading a team of six software developers in the development of Augmented Reality apps and libraries for head-worn displays. He also designed and implemented a custom 3-D UI scenegraph engine in C++, and later migrated the codebase to industry-standard OpenSceneGraph. James was also instrumental in the integration of Skybox, a real-time premium sports experience app on Google Glass, with Verizon Center IT. James holds a High School degree from St. Paul's School where he studied from 1989 to 1999. He has a deep understanding of software engineering and has worked with various technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, Android, Computer Vision, Python, and UI.
