Jayakumar Balasubramanian is an experienced EdTech entrepreneur based in Bangalore, India. He has had an illustrious career in the corporate world, having worked as an Embedded Systems Engineer for companies such as Ishoni Networks, Hewlett-Packard, and Huawei Technologies. Throughout his corporate career, he has held a variety of positions, from entry-level engineer to senior engineering/group manager. He has had the opportunity to work on a variety of technologies, geographies, and products, which provided him with new perspectives on organization building. Jayakumar spent the first 17 years of his life in small and medium-sized towns in South India. He learned in government schools and in the regional language (Tamil). He was given the opportunity to study Computer Science and Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, one of India's top technology schools, which gave him a stronger and more positive outlook on life. By the time he finished his engineering degree, he realized what a good education could do for a small-town kid like him. The combination of Education + Tech + Entrepreneurship started fascinating Jayakumar, and he eventually took an entrepreneurial leadership role in Emertxe Information Technologies after quitting his corporate career in 2014. Today, Emertxe is one of the top Tech Finishing Schools in India with a key focus on Embedded Systems & IoT. As the Director of the company, he has played different roles in Technology Delivery, Marketing, and Placements. With 30 lakh engineering graduates earning degrees each year and only 5-10% of them having employable skills, Jayakumar sees this as an exciting problem to solve. Emertxe has begun this journey by enhancing the employability of engineers in core domains such as Embedded Systems and IoT. As a team, they are excited to scale this with technology and become a global player. Jayakumar's past experience includes senior management roles in Huawei Bangalore center, where he headed the Linux portfolio. He had primary delivery responsibility for Linux versions from Bangalore by heading a cross-functional team consisting of first-line project managers, project leaders, test managers, along with senior individual contributors. He also created a technology roadmap by working on secondary market research, human capability analysis, technology recommendations, and execution responsibility for driving annual business plans for Linux portfolio.
