Jeff Zhao is a highly skilled software development engineer with over 13 years of relevant experience. Currently, he is working as a Software Development Engineer II at Amazon, where he is responsible for building exciting features in S3. Jeff has a strong background in software engineering, Scala, web development, Hadoop, big data, JavaScript, machine learning, and search. Prior to his current role, Jeff worked at Fractal Industries, Inc. as a Team Lead and Full Stack Scala Developer. There, he designed and built Reactive web applications for an advanced insurance decision-support platform. He also shaped the architecture and design of systems, guided developers to ensure technical excellence, and solved complex technical challenges through innovation. Jeff facilitated team collaboration, prioritization, and execution of development tasks in a methodical and disciplined manner. Before joining Fractal Industries, Jeff was a Lead Software/Big Data Developer at Independence Blue Cross. He transformed a machine learning predictive prototype to an enterprise product solution with Hadoop and cluster technologies. Jeff architected and developed a highly configurable data lake ingestion application to process various hospital electric medical record files, validate and transfer data to a standard model, and persist in a Hadoop environment. He also used his full stack expertise to design and develop a document repository web application that allowed users to perform keyword searches to document metadata and text content to identify member documents and hospital charts with Hadoop Ecosystems. Jeff developed an executive data virtualization dashboard using an open-source JavaScript framework, integrated with different data sources, and transferred data to various dynamic virtualization graphics. Jeff holds a Master of Science in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from China University of Mining and Technology.
