Jerome Serrano is a seasoned Sr. Machine Learning Engineer with over 14 years of relevant experience in the field of music and machine learning. Currently, he is working with Amazon Music and is responsible for building the future of the platform. He has a strong understanding of ML technologies and has expertise in AWS, mobile, software engineering, Hadoop, data science, Python, Java, Kafka, HDFS, data warehousing, big data, and MySQL. Jerome has previously worked with PlaceIQ as a Senior Software Engineer - Core Data Science, where he designed, built, and deployed a multi-billion-node graph mining system that tracks mobile devices across various data sources. He has also re-implemented the GIM-V algorithm introduced by PEGASUS, reducing the processing time by 20-30% using state-of-the-art compression and serialization techniques. Additionally, he has designed, built, and deployed a large-scale dwell detection system that uses geo-location data and density clustering to identify the home-place and work-place of over 10 million individual mobile-device owners. Before joining Amazon Music, Jerome also worked with Maxifier, a CXense company, as a Senior Software Engineer - Forecasting and Optimization. Here, he designed, built, and deployed a new distributed data warehouse system based on Hadoop to replace MySQL and provide real-time analytics on big data. The data is aggregated along multiple dimensions with Map/Reduce and stored on HDFS using compact binary files and multiple levels of indexing/partitioning. Analytics is then performed by a custom query engine running on multiple nodes. Jerome holds an Associate's degree in Applied Mathematics from Université Paris Sud (Paris XI) and a Master's degree in Computer Science from EPITA. He is proficient in Java, R, Python, Hadoop, Pig, Cascading, Kafka, AWS EC2, and AWS EMR.
