Jian Lin is a highly experienced Machine Learning Engineer with a PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA in Strategy, Organization, Finance, and Marketing from Northwestern University. With almost a decade of relevant experience, Jian is well-versed in the latest technologies and methodologies in the field of ML. Currently working at meta, Jian is responsible for product growth ML, ads ranking, and business ecosystem. Prior to this, he worked at Microsoft as a Software Engineer, AI & Research and led an elite development team dedicated to incubating and accelerating cross-org projects in Microsoft AI and Research. He has worked on several full-stack web scale products, including Microsoft Ads data processing infrastructure offline and online, Bing weather forecast with ML, Anaheim browser homepage (search, personalization), Microsoft News web application, Bing Web Data Platform (crawling, ranking), and Microsoft Enterprise Knowledge Graph. Jian has also worked at IBM, where he was an Advisory Software Engineer, Machine Learning, and led machine learning application, pipeline, and algorithm development for IBM QRadar User Behavior Analytics (insider threat). He collaborated across multiple disciplines from User Research, UX Design, Product Managers, and IBM Research and invented multiple US patents on machine learning, which went into production. At IBM BigFix, he designed and developed cross-platform enterprise endpoint security software IBM BigFix Detect from concept to product release and invented a US patent on distributed system (patent# US20190132201A1). At IBM XGS, he designed and developed new features for multi-core multi-thread IBM Security Network Protection Appliance (XGS/IPS) and architected and prototyped a light-weight network security protection software getting new customers in Cloud.
