Jim Dalton is a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer who is currently working at Contentful, a startup based in Berlin that offers a cloud-based, developer-friendly, content infrastructure product. With over 25 years of relevant experience, Jim is a product-focused software engineer and technical leader who works with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and product managers to push the customer and account management experience with the Contentful product to new levels of awesomeness. As a Staff Engineer, Jim also helps lead company-wide technical strategy initiatives and serves as a mentor and advisor for his engineering colleagues. Before joining Contentful, Jim worked at Instrument as a Technical Director where he led a stellar team of frontend and backend developers. Together they built groundbreaking digital experiences for amazing clients like Stumptown Coffee Roasters, Sequoia Capital, eBay, and others. Jim's work at Instrument included leading a team of developers to implement custom software solutions, defining systems architecture, technology solutions, and developer resource requirements for all projects, actively contributing to project and writing code for critical features or where support is required, encouraging and promoting high standards in software development, through practices such as test-driven development, code review, continuous integration, and more. He also mentored individual developers and helped them grow their professional skills and supported the executive producer in business development and overall team leadership. Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in English Language and Literature, General from UCLA. His technical skills include Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, infra, CI/CD, test, Integration, Frontend, and Backend. Jim is a technical leader with a proven track record of building high-performance teams that deliver innovative solutions.
