Jim Jones is a senior full-stack engineer with over 23 years of experience in software engineering. He is a seasoned professional with a strong background in Ruby on Rails, AWS, Performance, and Machine Learning. Jim has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Uber, Lime, PagerDuty, Funny or Die, and Juvo. He is a dedicated father to four children and enjoys working on large-scale, production-level systems. Jim's expertise lies in developing and scaling backend systems for high-traffic applications. He has a proven track record of delivering results, having worked on several successful projects throughout his career. Jim is a speaker at RailsConf, having presented twice, and has accepted commits to Rails core. He was a lead engineer for Uber's JumpBIKE division, where he scaled the backend during the promotional launch phase in 30 major cities in two months. Jim's experience also includes rewriting the checkout API for One Kings Lane, which generated over 300 million in sales. He was the lead performance engineer for Juvo, where he serviced seven major wireless carriers, supporting millions of customers across South America. Currently, Jim is a senior consultant for Lime, where he tracks 100,000's of scooters in near real-time, all with a monolithic Rails backend.
