John Chen is a Research and Development Architect and Consultant with over 30 years of experience in telecommunication and software development. He specializes in embedded and monitoring systems that require optimization for time-critical responses. John loves developing new product concepts and taking them to market. He is passionate about technology and constantly pushes himself to learn new technologies such as mobile app (iOS, Android), virtual and augmented realities (Unity, Oculus, Vive, HoloLens, Meta 2), deep learning (Tensorflow, Keras, CUDA), and robotics. John has recently completed the Udacity Self-Driving Car Engineer Nanodegree program, which provides hands-on experience with the latest autonomous vehicle technologies in cooperation with Mercedes Benz and Uber. The course contains 14 projects in the self-driving domain, starting out with computer vision, deep learning, machine learning, sensor fusion, EKF, UKF, localization, controls, path planning, functional safety, and ending in the final integration project where a team of five students build a complete autonomous vehicle software stack based on ROS, Python, C++, Tensorflow, Keras, OpenCV, and many other open source software to autonomously navigate Carla (an AutonomouStuff modified Ford Lincoln MKZ) around a remote test track. John led an international team, Team Vulture, which was the first team to successfully move Carla using their software stack, to successfully and autonomously navigate Carla around the test track, and to successfully complete the final project. Currently, John is a founding member of tesselae llc, where he works under contract for well-known Fortune 100 companies and startups. He develops architecture, business case, development plans, and operational concepts for deployment of artificial intelligence in a global network. He also develops Keras|Tensorflow DNN models to predict outcomes of various business processes in high confidence, engineers various IP video delivery components and pipelines, including set-top boxes and COAM devices, and conducts research on AI, Autonomous Systems, Machine and Deep Learning in various fields and applications. In the past, John founded Club Do It, LLC as a Maker Space in Loudoun County, VA, where he experimented with electronics, SBC (Arduinos, Digisparks, Raspberry Pi), 3D printers, 3D scanning and modeling, laser cutters, virtual reality with Oculus Rift DK1s, drones, welding, and robotics with Trossen Robotics HR-OS1 Humanoid Endoskeleton.
