John Simons is a visionary T7-T9 software engineer with over 15 years of experience in the industry. Currently, he works as a Sr. Software Engineer at Apple, where he is involved in some exciting projects that he cannot disclose. John has a strong background in frontend development, and he believes that it is nothing more than software that makes curl calls on your behalf and pretty prints the results. He has worked with various companies in the past, including OfferUp and Uber, where he held the positions of Sr. Software Development Engineer - Front-end and Sr. Software Engineer, respectively. At OfferUp, John was responsible for teasing apart a monolith serving both API and HTML and creating a new service dedicated to HTML that calls their APIs. He worked on Node/React, and he was often tasked with service owner stuff, like making sure their EC2 cluster was healthy. At Uber, John had to ramp up quickly on isomorphic React/Redux on Node/Express, and he found that he prefers React over Angular. John has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Washington, where he studied from 1998 to 2001. He also has a degree in Visual Communication Technology from Shoreline Community College, which he obtained in 2003.
