Jonathan Millican is a highly skilled Software Engineer with over 9 years of experience in privacy, security and applied cryptography. Currently, he is working as a Staff Software Engineer at Facebook, where he is leading the privacy engineering team for the company's ongoing work to fully end-to-end encrypt all of Messenger. He played a vital role in the design and implementation of Messenger's Secret Conversations, and now focuses on Facebook's goal to fully end-to-end encrypt Messenger. Jonathan's prior work includes privacy features such as automatically applying HSTS preloading to URLs shared on Facebook, adding OpenPGP support to Facebook, and various backend security projects. He has also represented the company externally through authoring blog posts, speaking at conferences, and giving a tutorial on security in federal court. Before joining Facebook, Jonathan worked as a Lead Developer at OurBook.co, a company that built bespoke yearbook websites, and as the Founder and Developer of BillIt, a site for tracking and simplifying debts between friends. He came up with the concept for BillIt and built a prototype system that was in use for a number of years by his peers at university. Jonathan completed his MA (Cantab) in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge in 2014. He also attended St Aidan's & St John Fisher Associated Sixth Form and Harrogate Grammar School. Jonathan's technical skills include Software Engineering, Senior Software Engineering, and Backend development. He is highly interested in privacy, security and applied cryptography, and not currently interested in working on cryptocurrencies or ICOs.
