Joseph Falkson is an experienced Analytics Manager currently working at Instagram, where he holds the position of Head of Data Engineering for Instagram Shopping. He is responsible for all analytics data that supports Instagram Shopping, a strategic bet for Facebook Inc. Joseph was the first data engineer on the team and grew the team from 0 to 10+ employees (including managers) over an 18-month period. His team's scope currently includes 10+ individual product teams with a large amount of x-organizational partnerships. Prior to joining Instagram, Joseph worked at Facebook as an Analytics Lead, where he was responsible for leading a team of 30+ analysts. He provided mentorship on analysis, data modeling, code review, project management, and career development. Joseph developed and scaled datasets measuring code quality and product reliability, providing management insight into the operational dynamics of their advertising business and connected reliability improvements to business results. He also helped lead the goal-setting process for reliability metrics across Facebook ads. Joseph transformed data from Hadoop/Hive/MySQL/Vertica into actionable insights and Tableau-based reports. Before Facebook, Joseph worked at Barclays as a Product Manager, where he managed product development for a global internal alerting tool. He coordinated product expectations and requirements with technology, business stakeholders, and senior management. Joseph translated requirements into tangible deliverables and software releases. He also built analytical dashboards to measure product success and provided comprehensive data management and analytics for their trading offering. Joseph holds a Master's degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Computational Perception & Robotics from Georgia Institute of Technology. He also holds a B.A. degree in Mathematics and Philosophy from Boston College and an Advanced Regents Degree in General Education from Kennedy Catholic.
