Karan Tanwar is a driven final year Computer Science student at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. With strong analytical, collaborative, and communicative skills, he has gained technical experience in software development, machine learning, and computer networks. Currently, Karan is a Software Development Engineer in Machine Learning at Amazon, where he has been working for 0.43 years. He previously worked as an Applied Scientist in Machine Learning at Amazon, where he was part of the IN Machine Learning team. During this time, he developed a unique algorithm that recommends top-k features for any dataset with 100+ attributes, resulting in increased accuracy/PR-AUC/ROC-AUC in classification problems. He also used Vowpal Wabbit for faster training and explainability for ranking feature importance (text and categorical). His project showed a substantial increase in ROCAUC and PRAUC from baseline results for AB (Amazon Business) datasets, and he received a pre-placement offer. Karan also has experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He was the TA for the course "Fundamentals of Machine Learning (COL341)" in Fall 2021, under Prof. Rahul Garg. Karan's educational background includes a Dual Degree (B.Tech and M.Tech) in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He will be graduating in December 2022.
