Karen Shea is a talented software engineer at Ableton with a background in graphic design. She has been working in the tech industry for almost 9 years, and her expertise lies in infrastructure, algorithms, scaling applications, and typography. Karen is known for her ability to navigate the complicated intersections of routing and software, making her a valuable asset to any team. Currently, Karen is working on exciting functionality across Ableton's many products, using her skills to create innovative solutions for the company's software. Prior to joining Ableton, Karen worked at Daimler Mobility Services GmbH as a software developer on the Routing and HD Maps team. Here, she was responsible for building the cloud-based platform for managing autonomous vehicles and fleets. Karen has also worked as a Navigation Engineer at Mapbox, where she moved to Berlin to work more closely with the Directions team. During her time at Mapbox, Karen ran out several migrations, built team processes around on-call and onboarding, and supported rolling out many features. On the routing backend, OSRM, Karen added features like conditional turn restrictions and routable map matching. Karen's education background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art, a BFA in Design and Visual Communications, General from Parsons Paris, and French Language and Literature studies from The Johns Hopkins University.
