Karim Nakad is a highly skilled Software Engineer with over 11 years of relevant experience. He is currently working as a Software Engineer at meta, where he is dedicated to improving developer efficiency across the board. Karim has a strong background in designing and building web-scale services and libraries by delivering maintainable code. In the past, Karim has worked as a Software Development Engineer III (Prime) and Software Development Engineer II (AWS SageMaker) at Amazon. During his time at Amazon, he designed and implemented large-scale transactional and audit systems to handle Prime backends. He also presented a 200-person tech talk about Relational vs NoSQL Database architecture, where he called out the tradeoffs and offered solutions for allowing NoSQL to easily handle rapidly changing business requirements. Karim enabled rapid development on services by allowing developers to deploy and test sandbox environments with a single command. At Amazon, Karim also maintained and developed features for SageMaker Python SDK, an open-source library for training and deploying machine learning models on Amazon SageMaker. He designed and implemented numerous features that launched at re:Invent 2019, including Processing, Debugger, and Model Monitoring. Karim also implemented automated build checks and tools to enforce formatting and Python best practices, in order to catch bugs early in the development process. He set up an internal dashboard to monitor the health of SageMaker Python SDK and investigated and outlined a 5-minute development environment setup using AWS Cloud9 to improve ease of contribution to SageMaker Python SDK. Karim holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
