He is currently serving as the Search & Evaluation Lead for Roche Pharma Partnering - Immunology & Infectious Diseases, where he is responsible for identifying and evaluating partnering opportunities in the field of immunology and infectious diseases. Karl is also a scientific thought partner for R&D senior leadership and is involved in setting strategic areas of partnering interest, including COVID-ARDS. Karl has a deep knowledge of drug development, therapeutic areas, and external trends/innovations, which he leverages to build relationships and influence both internal and external stakeholders. He has a proven track record of success in leading global development programs and is known for his ability to seamlessly integrate external collaborations. In his previous role as Lifecycle Leader (LCL) for Global Product Strategy, Neuroscience at Roche, Karl was responsible for the development and commercialization strategy and program execution of anti-myostatin adnectin (RG6206) in rare neuromuscular diseases. He led a team of 20+ geographically dispersed functional leads and successfully navigated the complexities of rare disease early-stage/late-stage operational models. Karl has also served as an Associate Group Medical Director for Product Development Neuroscience at Genentech, where he led the global clinical development plan for RG6206 and successfully integrated a BMS-initiated development program during the start-up of a pivotal study in ambulatory boys with DMD. Karl holds an MD degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Biology, General from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is proficient in search and integration technologies and is always looking to apply his expertise in new and innovative ways.
