Karthik Surendran is an experienced Software Development Engineer II currently working at Amazon. With over 5 years of relevant experience, he has a strong background in designing scalable back-end systems, and is proficient in programming languages such as Python, Java, and C. Prior to his current role, Karthik worked as a Senior Application Engineer at Oracle, where he was responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining back-end REST APIs for the Labor Distribution System - a component of Oracle ERP suite for distributing payroll costs of employees across sponsors and sources of funding. He also investigated ways of improving search performance of complicated reporting queries and pushed for the adoption and integration of ElasticSearch into the tech stack. Karthik also worked as an Application Engineer at Oracle, where he was responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining back-end REST APIs for the Grants Management System - a component of Oracle ERP suite for managing, budgeting, and reporting of grants of sponsored projects such as research projects. He discovered and evangelized a new way of deploying REST services that reduces deployment time of services by 80% (15 min to 2 min) thereby development and testing time across teams.
