Kartik Sura is a Director of Engineering at Rippling, with over 15 years of relevant experience in building products from ideation to launch. He is a passionate and strategic leader who excels at scoping requirements and developing V1 and V2 iterations. Kartik has a strong background in distributed systems, OS/kernel, network system design, and large-scale systems, which allows him to build platforms, systems, and networking infrastructure with ease. Kartik is a skilled server-side code writer who can create robust high-volume production applications and develop prototypes quickly. He has a talent for inventing, analyzing, and optimizing new algorithms or data structures that are provably better than the alternatives. Kartik builds strategic relationships with User Research, Design, Legal, Fraud, and Safety to ensure water-tight and smooth launch(es). Currently, Kartik serves as a Senior Engineering Manager at Twitter, leading the Global Participation engineering team. His team is focused on Twitter's topmost priority of growing active users globally, especially in emerging/developing economies such as India and Africa. Kartik is building a foundational team in Bangalore, which includes product managers, engineers, researchers, designers, operations, and data scientists, working as a single unit, obsessing about user needs in these regions. Prior to Twitter, Kartik led the Global Rider Growth team at Uber, where he developed a scientific toolkit to build learning on funnel and established an experiment culture and techniques to implement the scientific method. He also worked on the identity funnel to unlock COVID recovery, built a platform to send customized intelligent push notifications driving top-of-the-line rides, and invested in Experimentation and Data Science infrastructure for much faster velocity and feedback. Kartik has a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from the University of Pune.
