As part of the Transcriptic Common Lab Environment team, our main task is to model, schedule, and automate biological assays to be executed by robots and other automated devices. We use constraint programming (CP) to represent and solve the inherent complicated scheduling problems. The majority of the back end is composed of Scala services communicating over RabbitMQ; we use IBM ILOG CPLEX to solve and optimize our CP models. My day-to-day work includes digging deep into algorithmic problems, distributed system design work, and improving the software team's efficiency and quality of life by driving high-impact improvements to code quality, the deployment process, and CI testing.

Led the Systems Team, which is responsible for server-side components containing the bulk of our business logic, such as the API server, an event-driven job manager, accounting and billing logic, and the workers that run user-submitted jobs in the platform.  As a manager, I regularly contributed code, led design discussions, coordinated with other teams (e.g. the UI team, product management, and finance/billing), and trained new hires. I also established a process for code reviews and organized the recruiting effort for on-campus career fairs.
