Ken Blum is a highly skilled software craftsman with over a decade of experience in the industry. Currently, he holds the position of Principal Developer at Abbott Lingo Biowearables, where he is responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions for the company's innovative biowearable products. Ken is passionate about technical excellence and simplicity, and he brings this passion to all his work. Before joining Abbott, Ken worked as a Senior Frontend Engineer at Tempo, where he was the technical lead for major features such as real-time messaging, streaming music over Bluetooth, range-of-motion form feedback, and weight recognition. He introduced tools such as React Redux, Storybook, and clean code practices, which helped Tempo scale its frontend engineering team. Ken also designed and implemented a leaderboard feature with affinity groups scalable to 100,000 members and replaced ZeroMQ with a Kafka-based architecture that solved client performance bottlenecks. He ran experiments using Statsig and implemented a post-class survey to gather actionable data from members. Ken collaborated early and often with product management and design to brainstorm, scope, estimate, and prioritize new product features and improvements.
