Ketan Popat is an accomplished Principal Database Engineer at Intuit with over a decade of experience in data engineering, database administration, and operations for both OLTP and data warehousing systems. He has worked with renowned companies such as Yahoo! and Manhattan Associates, where he managed audience analytics related database needs, provided technical leadership for database upgrades, and worked on release-over-release performance benchmarking for WMS product. At Intuit, Ketan played a key role in migrating over 50 databases to the cloud for Small Business and Self-Employed Group. He was involved in devising a migration strategy adhering to security compliance, ensuring near-zero downtime during migration, maintaining high availability, and providing comparable or better performance post-migration. He also took an initiative to optimize database hosting costs, resulting in over $2 million savings year over year. Currently, Ketan is leading an initiative to decompose analytical workload from Intuit’s flagship monolithic product QuickBooks Online with nearly 5 million subscribers. His goal is to enable decomposition of monolith to microservices, move away from proprietary databases to open-source databases like Postgres, and set a stage for cross-product analytical capability across products like payroll and payments for customers. Ketan has extensively worked on database architecting for large-scale systems, database migration to AWS RDS/Cloud, database performance tuning, query optimization, data partitioning and parallel query implementation, data clustering and compression, database refactoring, data modeling, capacity planning/augmentation, and data replication using a variety of database as well as storage technologies. He is proficient in AWS, SQL, data engineering, microservices, Postgres, and QA. Ketan holds an Oracle Certified Professional 9i and 8i degree in Database Administration from Oracle University and a BE degree from Sardar Patel Institute of Technology. He is a highly motivated individual with 19.96 years of relevant experience and has driven multiple initiatives to improve team member’s knowledge and accountability, quality of deliverables, stability of databases, and engagement with development and counterpart teams.
