About
Kevin Chon is a highly skilled and experienced Machine Learning Engineer with a strong background in software engineering. He is interested in the intersection of AI/ML in industry, particularly in computer vision, autonomous systems, applied machine learning, and edge computing. Kevin has extensive programming experience in Python, Java, C/C++, Scala, MATLAB, Swift/Objective-C, and Javascript/Typescript. He is also familiar with a wide range of libraries and frameworks, including Tensorflow, PyTorch, Spark MLlib, pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, Keras, OpenCV, Node.js, XCode, and Unity. In addition, he has experience with data and cloud technologies such as SQL, SQLite, AWS S3/Redshift/Kinesis/Redis/EC2/SQS, and Hadoop/HDFS. Currently working as a Machine Learning Engineer at Collision Sciences - Forensic Technology, Kevin has also worked as an independent consultant, where he implemented an ML prediction system based on car sensor data and developed an event handling data analytics pipeline and machine learning infrastructure supported on AWS for Musi, a top 50 US/Canada iOS free app. He has also worked on a custom NLP app, utilizing traditional and deep learning techniques for training custom word2vec models/sentence embeddings and generating unsupervised keyword extraction. Prior to this, Kevin worked as a Research Software Engineer at Virtual Traffic Lights, where he worked on V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) communications solutions to optimize traffic flows at intersections and implemented a distributed wireless communication system involving DSRC radio and localization data generated from Open Street Maps and other sensors placed on the on-board unit (OBU). He also researched and worked with different computer vision techniques for multi-camera multi-object segmentation, image stitching, sensor fusion, LiDAR replacement, and overall perception module. Kevin holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the same institution. He also has a Computer Science, Machine Learning degree from EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne). Kevin's technical skills and experience make him a valuable asset to any team looking to leverage AI/ML technologies in their products or services.
