Kevin Doherty is a PhD candidate in the MIT/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) Joint Program, studying in the AeroAstro department at MIT. His research interests lie at the intersection of machine learning and autonomous robotics. Kevin is a Graduate Research Assistant at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, working in the Marine Robotics Group within the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) under John Leonard. Kevin has worked as a Summer Research Intern in Control & Autonomous Systems Engineering at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Robust Field Autonomy Lab. His research involved mapping environments using sparse and noisy sensor data and focused on the application of machine learning to the mapping problem. Kevin holds a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics & Ocean Engineering, an S.M. in Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a High School Diploma from Jackson Memorial High School.
