Kumar Ramaiyer is a highly experienced Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with over 26 years of experience in the data management industry. He has worked with several well-known companies such as Illustra, Informix, Ariba, Oracle, and Interlace Systems, where he was part of two successful acquisitions. Kumar has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University and has specialized in building more perfect software, including algorithms, data structures, multi-dimensional data management and analytics, in-memory analytics and planning, database kernel, locking and performance, OR mapping, and mentoring and managing on-shore and off-shore teams. At Ariba, Kumar worked on sourcing and procurement problems, in-house OR-mapping engine, and also helped to port Ariba server to J2EE server. At Interlace, he built a multi-dimensional calculation engine with excel UI as front-end, which allows for business planning in a centralized manner and helps customers to avoid having to create 100's of client excel models. Interlace was acquired by Oracle in late 2007. Kumar has also worked on transactions (OLTP), reporting, and analysis (OLAP), which naturally lead to planning, and he has solved many complex problems at scale: data/metadata changes, impact analysis, in-memory analytics, and sandboxing. Currently, Kumar is the CTO of the Planning Business Unit at Workday, where he manages the development of Essbase, a multi-dimensional database, and also development of Exalytics, which is the engineered system for analytics. He is also focused on delivering Essbase in Oracle Public Cloud as part of Oracle applications (Planning and Budgeting cloud service, Fusion SaaS --ERP/GL, CRM, ...), to build bespoke applications, and also move on-premise management of Essbase cubes to Oracle public cloud. Kumar has a strong educational background, with a Ph.D. in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a B.E in Computer Science from IISC, and a B.Sc in Applied Sciences from PSG College of Technology. He is highly skilled in software engineering, UI, frontend, and has relevant experience of 26.63 years.
