Kun Duan is a highly accomplished researcher and engineering leader with over 10 years of experience in computer vision and machine learning. Currently serving as a Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Apple AI/ML, he has an impressive track record of accomplishments in both research and engineering. With over 15 publications on top tier CV/ML conferences and 10+ filed patents, Kun has demonstrated his ability to transfer state-of-the-art AI technologies into real products. He has also proven his leadership skills in building and leading R&D teams. Kun has worked with several prominent companies in the past, including Quibi and Snapchat. At Quibi, he built the recommendation engine from scratch. At Snapchat, he started as a Senior Research Engineer and was later promoted to Manager of Research Engineering Team. During his tenure, he led the team to build mobile computer vision technologies for Snapchat creative tools such as Neural Style Transfer, Magic Eraser, Magic Tint Brush, Sky Filters, built ML ranking models for Snapchat story feed, and built a large-scale visual search engine for Snapchat Scan. Kun holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English Language and Literature, General from Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications.
