Kunal Banerjee is a highly experienced Staff Data Scientist with over 8 years of experience in the field. He is currently working at Walmart Global Tech, where he leads a team of data scientists working on foundational and ad-hoc problems that can benefit multiple organizations within Walmart and its subsidiaries. His expertise lies in high-performance computing (HPC), which he leverages to scale solutions wherever possible. Prior to joining Walmart, Kunal was a Research Scientist at Parallel Computing Lab, Intel Labs, India, where he focused on kernel optimization of deep learning workloads on Intel architectures. He has also contributed to Intel's accelerator for deep learning training as part of Intel Artificial Intelligence Products Group. Kunal has worked on various projects encompassing diverse fields including Computer Vision, NLP, Recommendation, A/B Testing, Responsible AI, AutoML, and AI Governance. Kunal has a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, where his research areas encompassed program analysis, formal methods, and verification. He has won several awards for his work, including the ISC Best Research Poster Award (AI & ML track), Intel's Gordy Award (Intel Labs' highest award), and Divisional Recognition Award. His dissertation work won the Best PhD Thesis Award at VLSID, Best PhD Forum Paper at ISVLSI, and Techno Inventor Award from India Electronics & Semiconductor Association. Kunal's technical skills include expertise in Research Scientist, Data Scientist, AI, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, Sentiment Analysis, Computer Vision, RNN, NLP, ML, and TensorFlow. He is a member of the IEEE and ACM and has published papers in top-tier conferences such as SuperComputing, IPDPS, ICLR, and CLUSTER.
