Lakshmi Narasimhan is a highly passionate technical professional with almost 20 years of experience as an engineer, leader, and visionary. Currently, he is leading a team of talented engineers at Uber Maps, where he is responsible for generating insights for the platform. His team collects data about Uber trips across the globe, processes it, and enables insights to be generated from it. Lakshmi is currently hiring for engineers at multiple levels to build the next generation data platform for the Maps platform. The role requires engineers who are comfortable dealing with petabytes of data, large scale data processing (Spark, Flink, Storm), and with a curious mindset to dive deep into uncovering non-obvious patterns. Prior to Uber, Lakshmi worked for Amazon and eBay as a software development manager. At Amazon, he focused on enhancing the catalog by building systems that process millions of URLs a day. His world-class team was made up of engineers and scientists who worked on developing algorithms that could build a prioritized view of the WWW. At eBay, he managed a team of high-potential engineers in managing and designing the billing system for eBay's global marketplace business. The billing system is a complex, high-throughput system built to handle the millions of transactions that the marketplace business processes every minute. Lakshmi has a proven track record in architecting and implementing software engineering practices with a special emphasis on process automation tools, configuration management, and DVCS systems. He has also implemented statistical and machine learning systems to detect e-commerce risk quotients. He is a highly experienced Agile practitioner and facilitator and a Java evangelist, frequently speaking on various Java forums like Bangalore Java User Group. Lakshmi holds an MS in Software Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Instrumentation and Control from the University of Madras. He also holds a Secondary School Leaving Certificate in Higher Secondary from GKSHV. His tech stack includes Java, Spark, software engineering, machine learning, and senior software engineering.
