Lee Edwards is a Partner at Root Ventures, a seed-stage investment firm that focuses on "hard tech" companies. With a typical initial check size of $1M, Lee and his partners invest in companies where the primary risk is technical, and the founders have a deep understanding of science and engineering. Lee has a particular interest in pure software, new tech in AI and machine learning, computer vision, and software tools and services that enable developers and other makers and creators. He is also passionate about software for overlooked and underserved industries like construction, agriculture, transportation, logistics, and manufacturing. Before joining Root Ventures, Lee served as CTO & VP of Engineering at Teespring, where he led engineering, product, data, design, and IT. He learned how to be a wartime executive in this role and gained valuable experience in building a platform that lets anyone, anywhere turn ideas into reality. Lee is a member of the Board of Trustees at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, where he earned his B.S. in Engineering - Systems Design. He has over 15 years of relevant experience as a Senior Software Engineer, with expertise in computer vision, AI, ML, and software engineering.
