Leo Liu is a highly skilled software and machine learning engineer with over 11 years of relevant experience. Currently working as a Software Engineer at Apple, he is responsible for developing and improving the Siri Speech Engine. Prior to this, he worked as a Software Engineering Intern at Cisco and Yahoo, where he gained valuable experience in developing web applications, optimizing router performance, and creating distributed resource monitors. During his time at Cisco, Leo developed a script/webapp that helped engineers spend less time generating stack traces, wrote a script that reproduced a bug on the router by sending commands over Telnet, benchmarked in-memory databases on IOS XR operating system, and optimized the download speed of labeled routes on the ASR9K router. He identified the IPC messaging system as a bottleneck and developed a faster replacement. At Yahoo, Leo worked on a rate limiter for cloud services, integrated the rate limiter into a web server, created a new data model for specifying limits, wrote a C++-to-Perl wrapper, and fixed bugs. He also wrote a distributed resource monitor, which could be used to distribute the rate limiting. For scalability, it uses a gossip protocol that arranges nodes in a tree. Leo holds a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
