Les Girard PMP, CFCM
Supervisor, Repair Contracts at General Dynamics NASSCO
About
Les Girard is a highly skilled and experienced Supervisor of Repair Contracts at General Dynamics NASSCO. With over five years of relevant experience, he has gained extensive knowledge and expertise in contract management and negotiation, as well as in developing and executing Lean projects. Les has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and a strong focus on departmental workflow, which earned him a promotion to his current role within just six months of joining NASSCO's Contracts department. As a Supervisor, he has been instrumental in realigning the department per the STARS model and implementing a successful turnaround strategy. Les is also responsible for overseeing Individual Development Plans and a team-developed training plan, in addition to numerous Lean projects aimed at improving performance metrics and department processes. Beyond his responsibilities in the Contracts organization, Les serves as the Lean manager for the entire Legal department at NASSCO. In this role, he ensures that the department's thirty-plus members meet their process improvement and Lean project goals. Les's exceptional performance as a project manager in production and engineering earned him a promotion to the position of Contract Administrator, where he oversaw upwards of $20 million dollars of repair contracts with the US Department of Navy. During his brief tenure in this role, he successfully negotiated over $4 million dollars in change orders, promoting NASSCO's bottom line while also striving to make a fair deal with their Government customers. Les's commitment to continuous improvement extends beyond his immediate responsibilities, as he endeavors to improve the organizations he works for through process improvements, lean projects, lessons learned, inter-departmental trainings, and actualization of the potential he sees within his coworkers. He has employed his talent for computer science to develop over a dozen process improvements, including the development of data collection and tracking tools for the estimating department, and the automation of tedious and menial data-entry tasks. Les holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and has also earned certifications in Finance and Project Management from the University of California, San Diego Extension. He graduated from Carmel High School with a High School Diploma in 2012.
