Li-Wen Chang is a highly experienced and accomplished Research Scientist with a strong background in Computer Architecture, High Performance Computing, Compiler, and System in ML. Currently, he is working as a Staff-level Research Scientist at ByteDance, where he is involved in System ML, HPC, model compilation, code generation, AI accelerator, and runtime management. He is a skilled tech lead and architect, having designed multiple generations of production-level AI compilers in Microsoft, which saved 3x in cost of goods sold and 10x in new model release cycles on Azure Cognitive Services. Li-Wen has worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft, where he focused on high-performance AI/ML frameworks, including ONNX, ONNX Runtime, and PyTorch. He has also worked on production-level compilers for AI/ML acceleration, and is familiar with LLVM/MLIR, TVM, and Halide. He has led a team and designed and architected a LLVM/MLIR-based compiler, and also worked on SW-HW codesign for NPU hardware projects. Li-Wen is a good researcher in Computer Architecture, High Performance Computing, Compiler, and System in ML. He has a strong research interest in Model Compilation, AI Compiler, Code Generation, and AI Accelerator. He has developed the first PC-based real-time high-frame-rate ultrasonic imaging product with Doppler, and the first GPU tridiagonal solver with pivoting, which is included in the NVIDIA standard library. Li-Wen holds a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD and a Master of Science - MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Science - BS in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University.
