Liz Bennett is a passionate and meticulous Staff Software Engineer at Confluent, with over 9 years of experience in the realm of data infrastructure and streaming systems. She has worked on various projects, ranging from high-level design work, establishing best practices, mentoring teammates, project planning, devops automation, to quickly banging out code. Liz is fascinated by the challenges of building quality software and loves working collaboratively to ship reliable, scalable, and maintainable infrastructure that drives impact and unlocks potential. Liz has worked with leading companies in the industry, including Stitch Fix and Loggly, where she led efforts to re-architect their streaming data infrastructure, shipped a complete rewrite of their real-time data systems, and established event-driven and logging best practices in the department. She has also architected data warehouse GDPR compliance strategy and data governance systems. At Loggly, she delivered several projects across the logging infrastructure, rebuilt Loggly’s parsing engine to allow users to define custom parsing rules, implemented a caching layer to enable auto-completion in the search bar, and worked on a rewrite of the Elasticsearch query engine, which enabled caching and incremental streaming of results over websockets. She also built general-purpose Elasticsearch benchmarking utilities. Liz holds a BA & BM in Computer Science and Music Performance from Oberlin College and a High School Diploma in Music, Bassoon Performance from Interlochen Arts Academy. Her technical skills include Software Engineering, Senior Software Engineering, infra, DevOps, Data Warehouse, Elastic Search, and Search. In her current role at Confluent, Liz is leading various projects to improve security and identity across Confluent Cloud.
